Eric and Miriam are diamond couple

In 1942 Miriam Chambers was 16 years old and living in Sunderland where she was dating a chap who was a part-time magician.

One Saturday night she was due to go out to a dance but the magician couldn't make it so he asked his friend Eric Wragg to look after Miriam for the evening.

Eric, who was also 16 and from Sunderland, agreed and arrived at Miriam's house to offer to take her out.

From that night on, the magician disappeared and Mim and Eric were an item.

Eric joined the army the next year and served during the war in India. When the war was over, the couple married on August 6 1949 when they were both 23.

Eric trained as a chartered accountant and they then moved down to Kenton in North West London in 1959 with their two young daughters Linda, who was five years old, and Pamela who was just one.

They subsequently moved to Pinner, also in North West London, then Croydon and Chalfont St Giles in Buckinghamshire. They finally settled in Spring Lane in Little Common in 1998 where they are thoroughly enjoying their retirement.

All their family wishes them a happy diamond wedding anniversary.
