Fairlight teen three times over limit

A 17-year-old boy from Fairlight was cuaght riding his motorcycle while almost three times over the legal drink drive limit.

He appeared at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on Friday where he pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol and driving other than in accordance with a licence.

The boy was riding a Honda CBF125 motorcycle when he crashed it in London Road, St Leonards-on-Sea, around 10.40pm on Christmas Eve. He was uninjured and taken into custody at Hastings where a breath test showed that he had 88mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, nearly three times the legal limit.

The boy was disqualified from driving for 18 months, offered a drink driver rehabilitation course and ordered to pay £50 costs and £15 victim surcharge.

Chief Inspector Paul Phelps from Hastings said: “This clearly demonstrates the dangers of driving whilst under the influence of alcohol, but it is only down to good fortune that in this case no one was seriously hurt.”
