Fee hike in Horsham parking

AN ‘EXTORTIONATE’ rise in Horsham town centre car parking fees has driven residents and business owners mad.

Parking charges in Horsham town centre car parks are set to rise by up to 50 per cent on 9 February 2012.

Horsham District Council (HDC) made the decision last October to introduce the new charges at car parks in the town centre but is also offering new tariffs at some locations.

Amongst the new car park charges are a 30 minute tariff that is set to come into force in Piries Place so users can now park for 30 minutes for 60p.

Parking tariffs at Swan Walk car park will increase from £1.60 for the first two hour period to £2 while tariffs at The Forum car park will increase from £1.40 for the first two hour period to £1.50.

The flat rate of £1 for the first three hour period at Hurst Road will increase to £1.50.

Charges are currently remaining the same and are not being increased at Hop Oast Park & Ride.

But the news has not been met with a warm reception.

In tomorrow’s County Times traders, residents and commuters voice their outrage at the hike, which is defended by Roger Paterson, cabinet member for the Local Economy.
