Find a purr-fect match at event for lonely hearts

The centre, in Lewes Road, Chelwood Gate, will be hosting its Lonely Hearts day on Saturday February 13 from 12pm to 2pm.

Visitors will be able to meet the many unwanted and abandoned cats currently at the centre, including those which have found it difficult to find a new owner.

As well as the chance to win a Valentine-themed love hamper, staff will be handing out chocolate hearts and pink lemonade at the family-friendly free event.

Deputy manager Tania Marsh said: “We have cats in our care which have been here for far too long and would like nothing more than to be in a loving, new forever home.

“Many of our loneliest cats are the ones which seem quiet, nervous or reserved when potential owners come to the centre. But often this isn’t a true reflection of their personality and given a little TLC they will come out of their shells and be affectionate and friendly.

“February is a great time to welcome a new cat into your home, now the excitement and chaos of Christmas and New Year is over. So we’re hoping to meet lots of people who will lose their hearts to one of our cats this Valentine’s weekend.”

Some of the lonely hearts currently in the care of Cats Protection’s National Cat Adoption Centre are:

n Lenny: Seven-year-old Lenny has been at the centre since November because his previous home was too busy for him. He is looking for a calm and quiet home where he can be the only pet. He has only ever lived indoors but would enjoy a peaceful garden.

n Maggie: Maggie, aged 12, has been in Cats Protection’s care since May. She is an independent cat who likes time to herself, but also enjoys playing with people and being fussed.

n Oscar: Fifteen-year-old Oscar came to the centre after becoming unsettled by other cats and dogs in the household. He needs a patient owner as he can be shy and needs coaxing out of his shell. With plenty of TLC, he will be a sweet and friendly companion.

n Poppy: Poppy came to the centre because she was unhappy living with a dog. The 11-year-old can be wary of strangers but soon grows in confidence and is friendly and affectionate.

n Flynn: Lonely Flynn has been at the centre for nearly a year and would now love a home of his own. He needs a quieter house without other pets where he can enjoy plenty of TLC.
