Firefighters tackle blaze as car bursts into flames on major South Downs road

Firefighters rushed to the scene when a blaze broke out in a car on a major South Downs road this morning (Wednesday).

The vehicle erupted into flames just after 10am on the A29 at Fairmile Bottom, Madehurst.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “Joint Fire Control mobilised one fire engine from Littlehampton to the scene.

“Upon arrival the crew found a car well alight. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using a high pressure hose reel.

“The crew left the scene at 11.17am.”
