Fishersgate footbridge '“ work starts

WORK started on Monday to replace the well-used Gardner footbridge at Fishersgate which forms a vital link between Eastbrook Way and Old Barn Way.

The existing, reinforced concrete bridge spanning the railway line has reached the end of its useful life and will be replaced with a steel one costing 250,000.

The work is due to take nine weeks, with the new bridge opening on June 16.

The county council has sent a letter to people living near the bridge, advising them that for safety reasons and to avoid disrupting rail travel, some work will have to take place on 11 nights.

The alternative route for pedestrians during the replacement scheme is via Manor Hall Road, Southwick, the Fishersgate railway station footbridge and Gardner Road.
