EASTER SINGALONG: The Chromatics Choir invite you for an Easter Singalong at Fletching Village Hall, Saturday March 19, 3.30pm to 5pm, £5 on the door. Tea included. All proceeds to Dementia UK.

100 YEARS AGO: Sussex Express 17 Mar 1916. Piltdown. Exemption was granted to A. Staplehurst, one of four men employed by A Tidy and Sons. Possibly Albert Staplehurst whose brother Charles of 1/4th Battalion, Essex Regiment. 54th Division was killed in action near Gaza 3 November 1917. Aged 40. Son of Frank and Katherine Staplehurst of Coghan’s Farm, Piltdown Fletching. Exemption was refused F. T Gladman, a carter in the employ of Mrs Mepham, of Moyse’s farm. This is presumably Thomas Frederick Gladman, Private 2/5th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment. 61st Division. Died of wounds 3 December 1917. Aged 23. Son of Frederick and Clara Gladman of Mosses Cottage, Fletching.

RAINFALL IN PILTDOWN: February was a dry month with total rainfall of 40mm, well below the long term average of 72mm. and the record 207mm recorded in 2014. The total for the three winter months was 323mm, above the average of 278mm but well below the record 596mm recorded in the very wet winter of 2013-2014.
