This campaign to move money out of Fossil Fuels investments, known as divestment, is part of an international divestment movement coordinated by 350.org which has already secured over $3.4 trillion moved out of fossil fuels companies.

A local campaign spokesperson said: “Pensions pots hold so much money in the UK, to move this money out of fossil fuels and into renewable energy would be a massive step forward in fighting the climate crisis. The prices of oil and coal are already falling as people are starting to realise that we can’t keep consuming them, if we don’t move the money they could become stranded assets and worthless, leaving people without pension.”

East Sussex Divests has already had some campaign wins, with Brighton and Hove City Council, Lewes Town and Hastings Borough Council all passing motions in favour of divestment.
