Grant will see Hotham Park and West Park play areas refurbished

Two play areas in Bognor Regis have been given a £100,000 funding boost.

The sites in Hotham Park and West Park will be refurbished thanks to the grant awarded to Arun District Council.

The emphasis in the improvements bought by the 80,000 and 20,000 worth of work will be on creating natural play for eight to 13-year-olds.

Arun bid for the cash from the government's department of children, schools and families in a fund run by West Sussex County Council.

Paul Wotherspoon, Arun's cabinet member for the environment, said: "The Playbuilder project is an excellent way to give local play areas a helping hand and I am delighted we have secured this significant amount of funding.

"We want to encourage residents to recognise the value and benefits of play for young people and to ensure everyone, including those with disabilities, can enjoy these facilities.

"Play helps build healthy bodies and minds and can open the door to fitness and future sporting interests.

"I am sure parents across Arun will be delighted by this news."

Hundreds of children will benefit from the refurbishment of the two areas in the next two years.

Work has started after consultation with local children.
