With Jason Kitcat and his wife, Ania, both standing down at the council elections next May, the party has chosen Alex Phillips, currently a Green councillor in neighbouring Goldsmid, as a replacement - along with Tom Druitt, her fiancé. The couple get married this weekend.

Candidates chosen in the first round of selections are:

Central Hove - Ray Cunningham;

Goldsmid - Cllr Ruth Buckley, Cllr Rob Jarrett;

Hanover and Elm Grove - David Gibson, Cllr Liz Wakefield;

Hollingdean and Stanmer - Rob Shepherd;

Preston Park - Cllr Leo Littman;

Queen's Park - Cllr Stephanie Powell, Dick Page;

Regency - Cllr Alex Phillips, Tom Druitt;

St Peter's and North Laine - Cllr Pete West, Cllr Lizzie Deane;

Withdean - Cllr Sue Shanks, Dick Page (who, having been selected in two wards, will decide in which he would like to stand).
