Hairdressing student head and shoulders above the rest

Hairdresser Kelly Selmes was "chuffed" when she received an award for Outstanding Student of The Year at Hastings College.

The 19 year old is a junior stylist at Mayfair Salon in Parkhurst Road and has completed her MVQ2 day release hairdressing course.

A former Bexhill High student, Kelly grew up in Pebsham and began hairdressing at the age of 16 - following in her mother Carol's footsteps.

Mayfair owner Pauline Harrington said: "Kelly put a lot of work into the course. She is very talented, very committed, confident and really enjoys her work, and that comes through. She was always keen from the word go. I would like to congratulate her and say - well done."

Kelly, who was surprised to win the award, said: "I was chuffed - I was proud of myself."
