Hastings police station reopened after refurbishment

The Lord Lieutenant was joined by Chief Constable Giles York, police and crime commissioner Katy Bourne, East Sussex divisional commander Ch Spt Di Roskilly and VIPs from partner agencies and the council.

The site has been refurbished to provide a better working environment for police officers and staff members, enabling a more flexible working environment and a service fit for the future.

Chief Constable Giles York said: “This refurbishment represents another significant milestone in updating our police estate.

“I have been so impressed with both the scale and design of this project as well as the undoubted hard work that has gone into transforming the site.

“Such success is only achieved in partnership between the contractors, the front line staff and all the programme team, all of whom have worked so hard and with such patience to enable this change.

“The result is a modern, functional police station that now matches the needs and ambition of the police officers and staff who are based here.”

VIPs were treated to a tour of the police station and given an insight into how their police work on a daily basis.

This tour included the new briefing rooms, break away areas, and new technology which will improve policing services and the working environment.

“I was delighted to join officers, staff and partners at the official re-opening of Hastings police station following its extensive refurbishment,” Ms Bourne said.

“The building has been completely remodelled with new operational technology and a much brighter and welcoming décor.

“Officers and staff who work there told me that they are really enjoying their new working environment.

“The refurbishment of many of our county’s police stations is part of a wider £20m investment programme designed to modernise and improve Sussex Police stations.

“The current estate includes a mix of Victorian and 1960s buildings that are no longer fit for purpose with high running costs and layouts that don’t support modern policing requirements.”
