HISTORY SOCIETY: The first Heathfield and District History Society meeting of 2016 was an in house event with two members, Brian and Wendy Hall, giving a presentation entitled The Land Divided - a World United, tracing the development of the Panama Canal from first idea to present day embodiment. The talk was well received by the members who found the combination of archive footage and modern day slides interesting. From time to time the society is contacted by people from other parts of the country who would like information. This month a gentleman from Suffolk asks if anyone knows of a local business or firm which existed in Heathfield in the 1930’s. He owns a vintage van bearing the name J A Paine. If you can help with information contact 01435 865260 and we can put you in touch.

The next meeting will be on February 18 at 7.30pm in the Community Centre when Peter Gillies will give a talk entitled Serendipity, Unexpected Discoveries. Non-members are welcome to come along.
