Help have a positive '˜Impact' on disabled

VOLUNTEERS are needed to help make a positive '˜Impact' on the lives of disabled people in the Littlehampton area.

Impact Initiative, which is based in Beach Road, Littlehampton, is appealing for a new batch of ‘advocates’ to join the group.

The advocates provide an essential lifeline to disabled people who want to understand their rights, make informed choices and to communicate clearly with others.

The volunteers would be helping adults with learning difficulties, physical, sensory or acquired brain injury.

Impact is seeking for someone with good communication and negotiation skills, with an understanding of confidentiality, the ability to develop effective working relationships with professionals, family members and others and the ability to cope with stressful situations.

The volunteer could help with anything from organising events, to baking cakes and arranging fundraising challenges.

n Age UK West Sussex has launched a hunt for a new volunteer to be the vital first link for elderly people calling the charity’s information service.

The organisation, which has a base in Beach Road, Littlehampton, is appealing for someone to join its triage telephone team.

The role would see the successful volunteer help provide family advice to older people, as well as offer key advice on where to find handy information.

There would also be a certain amount of record-keeping which the volunteer would have to do.

The ideal candidate would have clear communication skills, a sympathetic, understanding nature and would be organised.

n Drivers and helpers are needed to be a ray of sunshine for blind people in the Littlehampton area.

The Littlehampton Social Club for the Blind and Partially Sighted needs a general helper and car driver to help collect members and bring them home.

Volunteers need to have a clean driving licence and are requested to use their own vehicle. Mileage allowance will be paid.

The charity is looking for someone with the ability to get on with people so they need to be patient and have a good sense of humour and willingness to help others.
