Sussex Homeless Support recently acquired a double decker bus providing shelter to Brighton’s homeless and their pets.

The bus will travel to Windsor later this month where warm refreshments and water will be offered to other rough sleepers in the Royal town.

The group decided to get involved after Windsor council leader Simon Dudley sparked outrage when he called for the town’s homeless to be removed ahead of the Royal Wedding.

Jim Deans, who set up the GoFundMe appeal Homeless and Rough Sleepers, said: “It was national news that homeless were getting rounded up and cleaned off the streets. That’s what drew attention to it.

“We thought it would be good publicity. Guess what, there’s a homeless bus.”

Run by trained volunteers and homeless people from Brighton, the bus will set up camp opposite the Windsor Castle Pub on King’s Road, placing it right in the centre of the Royal procession.

Sussex Homeless Support is a Brighton-based charity with links across the UK. It supports Brighton’s homeless by providing food and clothing to rough sleepers.

It also provides cooking for the Anti-Freeze Homeless Project on Mondays and hosts a lively Street Kitchen every Sunday at the Brighton Clock Tower.

With all systems go for the wedding, let’s hope the Royal couple blow Brighton’s homeless bus a kiss.
