Liz, who trains with the Hove Hornets Running Club, has raised more than £1,500 for Amnesty International, some through her JustGiving page.

She was inspired by one of their human rights campaigns on behalf of a prisoner of conscience, she says.

Explaining why she set herself this challenge, Liz said: “I felt moved to join the fight for his freedom.

People in positions of authority can also abuse their powers here in the UK.

“So, I am standing up for my own human rights and in support of all those who have been subjected to ill treatment.”

Talking about what kept her motivated through the wind, rain and 5am training runs, she said: “Knowing that I am helping to make a difference to those who are suffering.

“Our human rights need to be protected but sadly, and too often, we become complacent about this.”

She also highlighted the role her four-year-old daughter played, saying she wanted to show her ‘the importance of standing up for what you believe in and the importance of going beyond what you felt was possible’.
