The cash to create the first sculpture to adorn the Hove Plinth has been raised by a crowdfunding campaign.

Hove Civic Society raised £40,445 with 79 supporters in 49 days.

Constellation by Johnathan Wright, the first artwork to be displayed on the plinth at Kinds Esplanade, is set to be complete by spring 2018.

Karin Janzon of Hove Civic Society said: "A huge thank you from Hove Civic Society and the Hove Plinth team for a fantastic result to the funding campaign for the inaugural sculpture for Hove Plinth.

"We can't thank you enough for supporting this great community project for Hove which relies entirely on voluntary effort . We hope you are as excited as we are at the prospect of seeing great modern-day sculpture on our wonderful seafront.

"Planning will now start in earnest with a view to undertaking construction of the plinth during the winter and launching Hove Plinth and its first sculpture in spring 2018.

"Jonathan Wright, Constellation sculptor, will involve residents in identifying the final objects for the his sculpted solar system of Hove through a series of workshops in September."

Inspired by the Fourth Plinth in London, Hove Plinth is set to exhibit a changing programme of sculpture at King's Esplanade. Major works will be displayed for 12 to 18 months after which some will be moved to permanent sites
