Netherfield had selected 11 year old Kallum Beale, impeccably attired in flannels and sweater; not only did this young lad take a wicket in his first over, but he remained at the crease for many overs scoring a good 11 runs as wickets fell.

Both teams gave Kallum a sincere round of applause for his achievements on the field.

He plays for a club and receives coaching, so matches against Netherfield look interesting for the future.

Hurst Green scored 224 all out, Yeardly scoring a handsome 60. A spell of loose bowling from Netherfield gave Guy Ballard the opportunity to display the fine array of strokes he had in his batting armoury and he put on 46, including several 6’s, before playing-on.

Smith also made 46 and Mike Hooker a steady 30.Pat Wright took 3 of Netherfield’s wickets and they were eventually all out for 150 in difficult light Young Kallum batting on alone as Netherfield could only raise 10 men.

The next Parish Council meeting is on Tuesday 26 at 8pm. Village Hall. All residents are encouraged to come along and listen to the discussions which concern everyone in the village. The Councillors not only turn up once a month but do a lot of homework between meetings in order to ensure the village requirements are satisfactorily met.

The police are asking people in this area to look out for a white ford transit van with the words “Mr Lee” written on the side. Number given S 561 TOC. This suspicious vehicle has been sighted in the Flimwell, A21 road, and Battle areas so may well appear in Hurst Green. If seen phone 101 for police.

School fete will be held on June 30 at the School. 2 until 5pm -parents, grans, granpas and other relatives will turn up in great numbers, of course, but it is hoped the wider public will support this village event. Stroll up and enjoy the fun of the fete, meet the children, staff and see the new school -and help them make a profit!

Another social event will take place on June 24 at the Aviation Museum, Bush Barn, Silver Hall. All day from 11 am till 5 pm the museum will be open.

There will be a book sale, light refreshments (they have some excellent lady cooks by the way!) free admission and parking, but donations welcome to help fund the Museum.

Many people will remember the days of The Bull, now the Claypot. It is with sadness that news of the death, on June 7, of its former host Hayden King Lawford has been received. The pub was a focal point for many organisations including meetings of the local Conservative Association and early Comedy Capers as well as others now disbanded. There was always a welcome for everyone and a good supply of hospitality from him and his late wife Arlene with her lilting Irish accent.

Lesley at Technique hairdressers sends gifts to our troops. Leave useful items with her, sweets, shaving gear, de odrants soap etc. and these will be opened by our chaps out there doing the world a favour with their bravery.

It means a lot to them and is a small thing for us to do for them. Lesley herself is a great asset to the village -as well as the lovely ladies she sends forth from her salon looking so well groomed -as she works tirelessly for so many in her quiet may and we share her snuggly little doggie who welcomes clients to her shop.

There’s more fun on Black Bin Day with the Friendship Club which meets at 2pm in the Village Hall, Chatting, games, entertainment and top priority, tea and cakes!

It is hoped that following Tuesday’s meeting (19) about the Ageing Well Project that there will be even more exciting things to do incorporating the Friendship Club. Eat your heart you youngsters, it’s the Age of the Recycled Older generation
