This is a celebration of music and literature with a seasonal flavour in the Parish Church featuring the fabulous singing trio of Tutte Curve and others. Tickets are £9 which includes a glass of wine and a plate of canapes. To date over £3000 has been donated to the Church Tower Fund. A grateful thanks to everybody who has been so generous. If you would like to help preserve the Tower which was built in about 1170 send your donation to the Rev. Canon Hugh Moseley, Pilgrim’s End,Manor Close TN36 4BT.

The June Church Market raised an excellent £340.

The production of ‘’The Woman in White’’ was a clear indication of the quality and talent within the Icklesham Players. Congratulations to all those who were involved. The play was a premiere of this adaptation of the very first thriller ever written .Janet Kates who had originally developed the concept whilst on a university drama course should be pleased with the outcome .It was excellent theatre and deserves more than a three night run. Others have used Wilkie Collins novel. Silent films one as early as 1912 used the story. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote a musical which was not as successful as much of his other works. It was in thee West End for 500 performances and on Broadway it closed after 3 months. Star Michael Crawford was taken ill. As the evil Count Fosco he had to wear much padding and this heat may have made him ill

Those haunting, atmospheric posters had been designed by Joan Baker and the production was dedicated to her memory and a donation from the profits of the show was donated to St. Michael’s Hospice in her name,

Not only was Joan a cornerstone of the Players, she also played a vital role in village life - whenever anything needed doing, Joan would be there. She helped with the village fete, held jumble sales, always did a wonderful display for the Church flower festival, helped run table tennis for the youngsters, made hundreds of cups of tea for various village events .... the list goes on and on. She worked tirelessly for the benefit of others, putting everyone else before herself. She, along with husband Derrick threw herself into village life. If she wasn’t helping, she always supported whatever event was going on. On a personal level, she was always there for the individual, too, offering support, help and comfort to whoever needed it, whenever they needed it. She was a focal point of village life and will be greatly missed.

In recognition of this, plans are underway to present a a memorial to her from the village. If you would like to contribute, donations can be given to Maureen Callis, Knoll House, Main Road 01424 812911 or to Dexter at the Icklesham Village Store.

Last Saturday Icklesham Casuals celebrated 75 years of football and friendship with games at home on the Recreation Ground and a Reunion evening in the Lodge at Winchelsea. Full reports will appear later. Former Casuals had come from many places. Colin McPhail M.B.E. had travelled from Dunfermline in Fife to present a trophy which he had kindly given to his old club. This award, for outstanding service to the Casuals,was given to Stuart Baker.George Cooke MBE described his post Casuals football experience in the professional game as a director of Middlesbrough FC. What a contrast when Steve Beale’s memories and anecdotes about his time as a Casual gave the audience the feel of football at the grassroots..

Icklesham Casuals would like to thank everyone who came along to the 75th anniversary celebrations last Saturday, both in the afternoon and the evening. The Club would also like to express its gratitude to George Cooke and Steve Beale for their speeches,to Suzanne for acting as photographer,to Helen and Jackie for the tea and cakes in the afternoon,to John Cannan and Keith Swallow for refereeing the matches and to everyone who helped to make the event a success.

The Club hopes that all those who attended had an enjoyable day and met up again with some old friends.

A landmark on the A259 will soon change. A planning application has been made to turn The Bridge Inn Winchelsea into a private dwelling

July is busy

Sunday 1 July 12-3 a Garden Party at Manor Farm Oast in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Plants, cakes, handicrafts and books for sale. Entry £5 which includes a Ploughman’s Lunch and a glass of wine.

Friday 13 from 3pm Icklesham School Fayre. Lots of activities and displays of children’s work

Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 two local art groups, Icklesham and Three Oaks joint ex

hibition Winchelsea 10am -6pm. All work will be for sale and 10% of the proceeds will be donated to Parkinson’s UK. Entry is free refreshments and a raffle.

Sunday 22 10.30 The final service to be taken by the retiring Vicar of Icklesham the Rev Canon Howard Cocks. Father Howard’s last service as Rector of Winchelsea will be on Sunday 5 August.

October 25-27 Icklesham Players next production is a song, dance and variety show. Local actors and singers will be bringing well known showstoppers to our stage.

They also hope to sprinkle a few other acts which follow the variety show in amongst the big songs to bring a balanced and entertaining evening of live entertainment to the village.
