It's the season to be mellow '“ and give thanks for our lovely county
Not for me the stickiness of the summer, with its traffic jams to the beach and people (who really shouldn't) be parading themselves in far too few clothes.
And the harshness of winter is a step too far, with the need to start the day ten minutes early to scrape the ice off the car. Spring runs a close second but, for me, is trumped by autumn.

Dressing in autumn makes your body feel loved. Big chunky sweaters and coats to keep the chill at bay, and the first outing of a scarf or wrap '“ autumn attire required to embrace the season with vigour!
And if, like me, you're thinning on top, the season is ripe for a hat or two (my preferred outlets include Allans Menswear in Petworth and Hansfords Menswear in Chichester).
For me one of the greatest joys of the season is the walk to and from the pub. Nothing beats getting togged up for a stroll of no more than 20 minutes to find a warming pint at the end of your journey.

Another simple joy of this time of year is the change in nature. Behold the wonderful coppery vista of fallen leaves as you 'scrunch' somewhere like Brandy Hole Copse, Kingley Vale or Hotham Park.
Autumn is simply the king of seasons. Enjoy it, and give thanks that we are in one of the best parts of the country to fully appreciate its abundant loveliness.
