Dozens of pictures were submitted for this year’s East Preston Festival photography competition, which this year focused on sport in the village.

Everything from badminton, cricket and sailing were included. However, judges hailed Joel Kingsbury the victor with his dramatic shot of his son Louis diving to the floor to catch a cricket ball.

Joel, of Vermont Way, captured the photo two years ago. He said he was ‘really surprised’ but ‘very pleased’ at hearing his photo had won.

Barbara Jackson was a close second with her dramatic shot of a windsurfer on choppy seas, while the third place award went to Mr D. Nicholson, for his perfectly-timed snap of a cricket ball knocking off the bails.

A special children’s picture of the year was awarded to 12-year-old Ellyse Jones for her shot of a parascender flying above East Preston, while Anni Stevens and Vivien Carter were also highly commended, along with another photo from Mr Nicholson.
