THE EXCELLENT relationship between pharmacists and doctors in the Adur area is the envy of the county, according to a Shoreham pharmacist.

Sue Kemp, the manager and pharmacist at Boots the Chemist, the High Street, was speaking to the Herald about the important role that pharmacists have in the modern NHS.

She said: The pharmacists in Lancing and Shoreham are working together very closely.

We re one of the most close- knit groups in the county, working with the doctors in the Adur Primary Care Group.

The Adur Primary Care Group is made up of local people involved in health care, including doctors, pharmacists and nurses.

We re working with the GP s and we re doing some quite pioneering stuff in the area.

We were one of the first Primary Care Groups who would give the morning-after pill free of charge.

Mrs Kemp said that the cost of the morning-after pill, which has been sold over the counter since the beginning of the year, was being met by the care group something which was not being done in many other areas.

She added that there were likely to be more initiatives from the group later in the year, including, hopefully, the dispensing of antibiotics at pharmacists .
