The event was attended by Councillor Dee Simson, Brighton and Hove’s Deputy Mayor, who came along to support the open day, meet residents and support the charity cake bake which also took place for the local Stroke Association.

Councillor Alan Robins, chair of the tourism, development and culture committee, said: “These events are an ideal way to try out the range of activities on offer at our leisure centres and it’s great to see that more than 300 people came along to the open day at Moulsecoomb, which has a great community atmosphere.”

Joby Johnson, Freedom Leisure centre manager, says: “We are over the moon with the success of the event. The aim was to encourage locals to be active and it certainly achieved that! The centre was buzzing and everyone seemed to really enjoy trying out new activities.

“Moulsecoomb Community Centre is as its name suggests, all about the community. The suburb of Moulsecoomb is slightly remote from the centre of Brighton city centre and as a result the community can be a little removed, making them less involved with an active lifestyle – Freedom Leisure along with the council are committed to supporting local residents to be more active and it is for this reason that we are so delighted so many people attended the open day!”
