HISTORY GROUP: Lewes History Group meet on Monday, 7pm for 7.30pm at the King's Church Building, Brooks Road. The talk will be Life and Death on Malling Down. Assistant County Archaeologist, Greg Chuter will talk about what the archaeology of Malling Down has revealed about agricultural life, death and burial in the South Downs landscape from the Neolithic through to WW2. It will include the results of the lab analysis on the origins of the murdered young men found buried there. Were they Viking raiders or executed locals?

HARD OF HEARING GROUP: The next meeting of the Lewes Hard of Hearing Support Group will be held on Monday March 21, from 10.30am to noon at Lewes House of Friendship, 208 High Street. This is an excellent opportunity to meet other hard of hearing people and to make new friends in a relaxed and welcoming environment and to learn from their personal experience of living with hearing loss. It’s also an ideal opportunity to learn some useful communication skills that will help to reduce the feeling of isolation. Free refreshments and raffle. All welcome so put a note in your diary. COFFEE MORNING: South Street Bonfire Society are holding a coffee morning at Cliffe Church Hall tomorrow, Saturday, 10am to noon. Tea, coffee, tombola, cakes and bonfire photos. So do come along and have a drink and a chat.

TRINITY AT SOUTHOVER: And St John sub Castro. Did you know we have a branch of the national Prospects Group here in Southover, helping people who need that extra bit of assistance with life and learning? They meet on alternate Thursdays from 7pm to 8.15pm in Southover Chapter House, which is fully accessible (entered via Church End, Cockshut Road). Meetings include talks, games, music, drama and craft; ending with food, tea and coffee. The group is led by volunteers from Trinity and other Lewes churches. Marcus Taylor sold his delicious jams and chutneys after our service last week, raising £120 to support two of our church members who currently live in Vinnitsa, Ukraine and work with orphans over the age of 16 who don’t receive any help from the state. FOOTPTHS GROUP: On the last Sunday in February we had to change our walk from water-logged Laughton to one of our favourite areas which we knew would be less muddy. We started from East Dean and took the Birling Gap road to the Sheep Centre. We then followed the path towards Birling Gap. It was quite amazing that, on a cold and windy winter’s day, the café there was full to overflowing and we wondered what it would be like on a warm summer morning. Suitably refreshed, we then headed for the coastal path and a cold bracing wind, before heading inland towards Crowlink and then back to East Dean where some of us enjoyed a snack at the popular Hiker’s Rest.

The next walk is on Sunday, Punnett’s Town, an undulating 5 mile walk. We will meet as usual at top North Street car park for a 9.30am start. New walkers very welcome.
