Local food and drink producers celebrate awards success

Local food and drink producers have been celebrating after winning accolades at the prestigious Sussex Food and Drink Awards last night (Thursday, January 28).

Ridgeview Wine Estate, in Ditchling Common, scooped the trophy for Sussex Drink Producer of the Year, while Sussex Producer of the Year went to The Traditional Cheese Dairy, in Stonegate.

The Sharnfold Farm Shop, in Stone Cross, took the title of Sussex Food Shop of the Year and Eggs to Apples, in Hurst Green, was named the Sussex Newcomer of the Year.

Michael Sutherland, from The Sussex Ox in Polegate, narrowly missed out on the title of Sussex Young Chef of the Year, coming as runner-up behind Ryan Tomkinson from The Pass, South Lodge, in Lower Beeding.

Lewes Farmers Market was named as a runner-up in the category of Sussex Farmers Market of the Year, an award which was sponsored by Harveys Brewery.

Two local establishments were runners-up in the Sussex Eating Experience of the Year category - The Curlew Restaurant, in Bodiam, and The Sussex Ox, in Polegate.
