Some areas of the city are not easily accessible for collections during the freezing weather, the council said. Where collection crews were not able to get through on their usual routes, they were sent out to support colleagues in areas which could be collected.

Staff are also clearing ice and snow around the hospital, medical centres and schools, using grit where necessary.

Snowbug, the council's pavement gritter, is also clearing pavements in the city.
