Malling

SOUTH MALLING SCHOOL: Once again the children of South Malling were exceptionally thoughtful and generous and raised an amazing amount of money for Children in Need. It was great, last Friday, to see everybody dressed in spots, enjoying the stalls and activities and having fun raising money for this worthwhile cause. It seems strange to be thinking already about the new intake of children for September 2017, but next week we are holding our prospective parent meetings so if you have a child due to start Reception next year please come along (Tuesday at 10am or Wednesday at 2pm) and find out about the great range of opportunities South Malling can offer. Next week Christmas will be arriving at South Malling. On Thursday we will be having our now famous decoration day when the whole school is involved in making decorations and parents and carers come in to help. There is always a buzz and excitement during the day as well as lots of glitter everywhere.

SOUTH MALLING CHURCH: (One of the three Trinity churches) welcomes Advent on Sunday and the beginning of the new church year. Revd Jeremy Bamber will be leading the service which is contemporary in style. All are welcome. Advent is a time of preparation for Christmas when Christians believe that God came into the world in the person of Jesus, who in his actions and his teaching showed what God expected from humanity. He is given the name Emmanuel (God with us) and the great Christian prayer for this time is Come Lord Jesus.

TENANTS AND RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION: At the AGM last week, members were told that the Foodbank had been given part of the proceedings from the sale of a van which had belonged to one of the other Lewes Foodbanks, now closed. The Malling Foodbank is close to securing a new location at the Phoenix Centre, at a very reasonable rent, so the future is looking good. Supported by the tenants and residents association, the Foodbank has now been in existence since August 2015 and it looks like it is now firmly established with a secure location on the horizon, reasonable funding and the generosity of local stores. Their funding comes from churches and South Malling School, with the active support of local councillors and the possibility of occasional grants and financial gifts together with a small charge from users helps to keep things going. Most of the regular Food comes through Fareshare, who collect from generous supermarkets. More about the move when details are confirmed.
