As TV’s Masterchef comes to an end for another year,last year’s winner made a visit to Brighton to inspire a group of young people with a passion for cooking.
The budding chefs attended a week-long course which was organised by children’s charity Barnardo’s who worked in collaboration with the Brighton & Hove Community Kitchen.
MasterChef Champion 2018 Kenny Tutt recently hosted two masterclasses at the kitchen, which funded the course for the 16-24 year olds.

During the week, the class had the opportunity to hear from various speakers and learn more practical skills including Kenny Tutt, and founder of new restaurant Pitch; Xavier Buendia of award-winning XDB food photography; Chef Kanthi Thamma founder of the Curry Leaf Café, Easy Tiger pub kitchen and the Spice Circuit food tours; Charlotte Fuller who is a pastry chef at The Community Kitchen and Justin Gourlay, baker and director of Brighton’s immensely popular Real Patisserie business.
Kat Last, Barnardo’s Brighton and Hove ETS Project Worker said: “This was a wonderful opportunity for some of the city’s ‘NEETS’ – 16 to 24 year olds not in employment, education or training, to have a real understanding of the food and catering industry and learn from the experts.
Kenny Tutt, 2018 MasterChef winner said: “I am passionate about striving for perfection, taking classic dishes and elevating with local young people was the icing on the cake.
“I loved sharing how food and cooking brings people together, and the many possibilities for careers in the industry.”
Jess Crocker, senior manager at Brighton & Hove Food Partnership, which runs Brighton & Hove Community Kitchen, said: “We were thrilled to host this course.
“We know from our long experience working with people from many backgrounds how food can provide the focus that brings about positive change in people’s lives.”
The Community Kitchen is a new social-enterprise cookery school in the heart of Brighton.
