Member of the public raised alarm after kayak capsized in Selsey

Two people got into difficulty in the water after their kayak capsized in Selsey on Tuesday morning (January 19).

According to RNLI Selsey Lifeboat Station, it was alerted by a member of the public knocking the door

It was reported to the coxswain that two people were in the water after their 'sit-on kayak had capsized'.

"He said they appeared to be struggling to get back on the kayak," a lifeboat station spokesperson said.

"The lifeboat operations manager, who was also at the station, informed the UK Coastguard who paged the crew straight away.

"At 8.40am, the inshore lifeboat (ILB) launched and made best speed to the kayak but soon after launching it was reported the two persons had swam to the beach and were okay."

The ILB recovered the kayak and paddle from the water before returning to the station at 8.55am.
