More affordable homes in Arun district

Arun District Council has worked with developers to deliver a total of 196 homes for families who are unable to buy or rent a property without financial assistance, compared to 67 the previous year.

A total of 61 affordable homes were delivered in Yapton, and 45 more in Bognor Regis with a number in Rose Green and others throughout the Arun district.

The majority of these homes were suitable for families and featured two or more bedrooms and a garden.

And more than 100 new homes were also built in Bersted on a site allocated for development in Arun’s 2003 Local Plan, as well as developments in Aldwick, Bognor Regis, and Yapton.

The information has been published in the council’s annual monitoring report, available to read in full online at www.arun.gov.uk.

Ricky Bower, Arun’s cabinet member for planning, said: “Monitoring is an important part of the planning process and plays a critical part in identifying changing situations that may trigger a review of policies.

“We prepare annual monitoring reports in order to assess the extent to which policy objectives are being achieved.

“I’m happy we are able to report some key achievements against a very challenging backdrop.

“Arun District Council is committed to increasing the number of affordable homes across the district so these figures are really good news for the many families we know are struggling to find somewhere to live.

“We are also vigorously pursuing opportunities to bring into use more employment land to boost the local economy so starting 2012 with 0.3 of a hectare more than 12 months ago is very welcome.”

The annual monitoring report is based on the period 1 April to 31 March and is submitted to the secretary of state for communities and local government.
