Top billing this week has to go to Caroline Hollamby’s sponsored, 100 kilometre, night-time cycle ride round the streets of London in aid of the terrific charity, Tommy’s.

She did it!

After the weeks and months of training with her cycle buddy, Sue, Caroline woke up on Friday morning, the day before the big event, with a stinking cold, shivers and shakes, and a pounding head, . Having been forced to call in sick to work, somehow she got through and was ready in Crystal Palace for the 11.00 pm start. After that it was down to adrenalin and cameraderie. She tells of extraordinary experiences: traffic and London buses waiting while a pack of thirty or so charity riders went round Piccadilly Circus; meeting a self-propelled wheelchair user still only half way round as they were finishing; pedalling through Regents Park to lion roars as the zoo animals began to wake... They did the 100K in just under six, traffic-lightful, totally sleep-deprived, hours.

Including gift aid, Caroline and Sue have raised about £1,500. That’s a whole lotta money, but for the months and miles of preparation they’ve put in, it could be more. So, to add a fiver, go to virginmoneygiving.com/TourDeFriends or www.tommys.org.

Pete writes: “Last Sunday (June 8th), I led a band of intrepid walkers on the first of the “Through Time and Trees” walks in aid of All Saints, Mountfield. It was a glorious morning: the skies were blue, the sun was hot, we saw amazing sights and everyone had a great time.

“The walkers were a mix of Mountfieldians, old and new, and folk from the suburbs (mostly Robertsbridge). There are still places for the final walk on Sunday, June 22nd, at a mere £7.50 per head for three hours of fun and amazement. Bookings and enquiries to me or Jackie Spriggs on 01580 880 261.”
