Mountfield village voice

On Sunday 17th June, family and friends gathered in Mountfield Church for the Christening of eleven month old Toby Alfred Crawford.

The service was conducted by Reverend Geoffrey Pickering. Toby looked lovely in his outfit of white shorts and shirt. He took everything in his stride and had a good look at everybody in the congregation when Rev’d Pickering carried him around the church to introduce him. Toby’s two year old brother Henry watched carefully and also looked delightful in his check shirt and blue trousers. Toby was anointed with oil and his parents Richard and Rebecca along with godparents Kelly Leigh and John Morgan promised to ensure that he is brought up to follow the Christian faith. His Grandparents Jim and Brenda Ray and Graham Crawford looked on proudly. It was the first Sunday service for several months due to essential repairs having to be carried out. Rev’d Pickering gave an interesting address to an almost full church making references to modern technology and how that can help to remind us to keep in touch with God.

After the service, the Christening party made their way to the village hall. The tables had been decorated beautifully with flower arrangements Brenda had made. There was a lovely buffet which everybody enjoyed including delicious cup cakes made by Brenda’s friend Janet. Rebecca had decorated Toby’s Christening cake with his name on little building blocks, a blue teddy bear and blanket ( all made out of icing. ) It looked really good. Young Toby’s family had certainly been very busy preparing for the day. Despite not having his usual morning nap, Toby continued to be happy and enjoyed being given his lunch by his Auntie Helen whilst sitting in the highchair. Henry and other children played happily around the hall. Richard made a poignant speech about Toby growing up and remembering his late Mother, Penny who sadly passed away earlier this year saying how she adored Toby. A toast was made wishing Toby all the very best for his life.
