Netherfield village voice

Community Friends for Netherfield? Need help for those small jobs like changing a light bulb, clearing your path of snow, shopping, tidying the garden or a lift to the dentist? We all face difficulties like this at some time in our lives and we don’t always like to ask for help.

The good news is that Rother Voluntary Action has obtained funding to develop Community Friends Schemes to help all those living in isolated rural villages such as Netherfield access much-needed services. Being able to call on help when needed can make all the difference, especially when you live alone This scheme can also help younger residents who would like to take part in events but may need transport to towns such as Battle and Hastings. The Community Friends Project will link those in need of a ““helping hand” with local volunteers willing to donate time and services. Help can be any small service such as giving occasional lifts, collecting pensions and prescriptions, small household jobs, walking the dog, befriending and letter writing. Volunteers would be fully supported and only expected to offer what time they can spare for services they would feel confident to carry out- it could be as little as one hour a fortnight. A local Steering Group has been formed who will look to see if there is sufficient need for such a scheme in Netherfield. They will deliver a survey form to your door on the 8 May; when completed, the form can be left at the collection box at the shop or someone will knock on your door; the deadline is 22 May and the group will announce the results by the 6 July. So please spare a short time to fill in this questionnaire, you never know you might need a helping hand at some time! The Coffee Morning, hosted by Chris Harding suffered from the dismal weather as we were forced indoors sadly. The usual stalwarts turned out and supported the event which became a very sociable and enjoyable morning with much eating of cakes and biscuits plus copious coffee. Thank you to Chris for hosting this for us and helping to raise over £100 towards our running costs.

Please don’t forget the next Quiz Night at the White Hart arranged for the May 24. Start at 7.30 pm. with teams of 4 -6 at £2.50 per person, all in aid of your church so make a note now and come and join us. Paul Smith Church Warden.
