FRIENDS OF ST ANNE’S: Plans and fundraising have started for building an extension, with toilet and kitchen facilities, at the south-west corner of the church and for the renovation of St Mary’s Church Hall too. St Anne’s Easter Services will be Sunday, March 27, 8am and 10am. Lunchtime recitals were very successful last year and will resume again on Thursday April 28 at 1.10pm.

LANDPORT BOTTOM: Rangers report interpretation boards will be installed at the end of the month in positions approved by the planning department. New permanent ‘Please pick up after your dog’ signs have been sourced for the gate posts and a full survey of the posts and gates will take place and issues fixed February-March. The Chalk Pit pub has new owners. Contacts for clearance of scrub this autumn and peregrine ringing in the summer. There will be a Jewels of the Downs guided walk on Saturday June 18, 10.30am to 12.30pm, looking at the butterflies and flowers that adorn our grassy hills. Volunteers for Ecological Surveys this year are hoping to carry out birds, butterflies and reptile surveys. Maybe also a moth survey and Bioblitz for insect and extra vegetation would be planted along the field boundary of Landport Bottom, to reinforce the existing hedge line. This would have the effect of increasing biodiversity and help with flooding. The Woodland Trust will be providing free trees. Next Friends of Landport Meeting: will be Monday May 9.

WALLANDS SCHOOL: Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) offers support to children with ASD to access leisure activities and improve social skills. They also provide a range of Autism Awareness training. Please place in the box in the crush hall by the end of May. Patina Anonymous Art Auction; will you draw or paint a picture entitled Something I Saw to fundraise for Moving On 2016? Auction of works by professional artists and those yet to be discovered at Lewes House, on April 22, 7pm. Artists’ identities revealed only after purchase. The netball league is progressing well, with all three teams playing at least two matches. The next few matches will be played in house and then the league will conclude on March 21. Thank you for the parental support with transport and court-side cheering. On Wednesday Wallands hosted the Lewes District Netball tournament in the rain and hail. Ten teams attended and with everyone’s perseverance and good mood we managed to finish the pool games. Mr Perry reported a huge improvement in Team 2 and 3’s play and it was a shame they both just missed out in finishing second in their pool. Wallands 1, LOGS, Southover and South Malling will be invited back to play the semi-final and final next week. Four Wallands pupils, who are all members of Lewes Bridgeview Judo Club, all fought at the Rose Hill competition in Tunbridge Wells at the weekend. They all did very well, with the following results: Milo Lockwood bronze runner up, Jocelyn Kearley-Light bronze, Daniel Salter bronze, Mia Goode bronze. All the players had at least one win in their bouts with Daniel improving on his last competition and taking two wins. Anyone interested in a free session contact [email protected] or 07944851648.

CHRIST CHURCH: Worship on Sunday at 10.30am will be led by Rev John Gordon and will include Holy Communion and an infant baptism. Members of the congregation last Sunday morning were treated to a pot plant each to mark Mothering Sunday. Hopefully once they have finished flowering. They can be planted in gardens as a permanent reminder of Mothering Sunday 2016. We are now planning our Messy Church which will be held on April 8 from 10.30am. The theme will be Two Tiny Coins. Messy Church is open to all ages and during the morning there will be craft activities, worship and a lunch.
