New vicar of Bognor welcomed

A new vicar of Bognor Regis has been instituted.

Father Andrew Wadsworth was formally appointed in the role by Father Douglas Mckittrick on behalf of the Bishop of Horsham, the Rt Rev Lindsay Urwin. Fr Andrew has been the priest-in-charge of St Wilfrid's Church, Bognor's parish church, for 18 months.

He arrived in the town from Bulkington in the diocese of Coventry.

He has already made his mark with the congregation and Nyewood CE schools as a popular leader.

The service was a lively event ably supported by some of the children from Nyewood Junior School.

They gave a presentation after the gospel which included the 'Ten Plagues Rap', a challenge set by Fr Andrew from their school work on Moses.

They also helped with the prayers and other parts of the service.

Fr Andrew took effective control of the parish by the symbolic locking of the church doors, the ringing of the calling bell and the pledging of oaths of allegiance to the Bishop of Chichester and the Queen.

A short informal reception after the service enabled people to chat to the priests.
