Many congratulations to all the contestants that took part in Ninfield’s Got Talent last Friday, July 12. You all did very well despite the apparent technical hitches! I know that mums and dads are very proud.

Hooe Open Group (Ladies Club) held its meeting on a very sunny afternoon, on Friday July 12, which was attended by an enthusiastic contingent of members, who enjoyed the social atmosphere of the gathering at Hooe Village Hall. The meeting, as always, commenced with the members gathering around the bring and buy table, which is always stocked with a wide selection of nearly new items on offer at bargain prices, including plants and CDs. The speaker was Hilary Dugan from Lifeline, a company based in Eastbourne which provides a security for those who live alone or are infirmed, as well as young persons who may need monitoring. Hilary demonstrated a large number of devices for calling up help from a call centre based in Eastbourne, which is manned 24/7, 365 days of the year, who are ready to respond when called upon both in an emergency or just for a friendly chat, if someone is just feeling lonely. There is always someone ready to help in any situation good or bad, night or day. The members were very impressed with the diversity of available products, able to cover almost every possible requirement, no matter what, such as a warning system for bed wetting. There were many questions as the devices on display were handed around, in particular a door chain that can be unlocked from outside. After the presentation the member had afternoon tea at which time Hilary Dugan handed out company pens and £1 size tokens for use on super market trolleys. The next event is on Friday August 9, which will be at the Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne, where the members will take a 40 minute round the harbour trip on the African Queen. This will be followed by a Danish pastry tea at the nearby Simply Italian cafe. If you are interested in joining a group of very friendly ladies, why not drop in at Hooe Village Hall at 2.30pm on the second Friday of the month (Except August) or call Edna Wallis on 01424 842591.

Ninfield Bowls Club have had three league matches this last week. However, they found the hot weather a little draining: July 10, Ninfield played Sidley Martletts winning 78-48. They then played Staplecross on July 13, just loosing 71-65. The heat then really affected the players when they played Hawkhurst on July 14 conceding another loss of 85-49. Hopefully the members can get used to the heat this week and we will see some good results.

Ninfield Local History Group are linking up with the Ninfield Youth Forum and want to interview ex Ninfield United football players and record their memories of playing for the village in years gone by. This is part of our Heritage Lottery Fund project entitled Ninfield - The History of a Rural Village. If you, or someone you know played for the Ninfield football team please get in touch. Hooe Parish Council are meeting on July 22, 7.55pm at the Village Hall. All Hooe residents are invited to attend.

The next Neighbourhood Watch and panel meeting will take place on Tuesday July 23, 7.30pm at the Reading Room. They will be having a speaker from Trading Standards. All villagers are welcome. If you have any questions regarding police matters or Trading Standards, do go along and get the answers.

Local mum, Lorna Tomasetti, has been training hard to participate in Ride London 100 on Sunday, August 4. This is a new race billed as the London Marathon for bikes, which is hoped to be a legacy to the Olympic Games. Her challenge is to complete a 100 mile route around London (including the Surrey hills) in under nine hours. She has taken up this challenge to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, as her youngest son has had a number of operations there. Ninfield Flower Group are holding a flower festival entitled “A Festival of Festivals”, August 24 - August 26. The festival will be held at Ninfield memorial Hall, 10.30am-5pm daily. Entry is £2/person with proceeds going towards The Sara Lee Trust along with a donation going to the Memorial Hall. There will be refreshments, a raffle, tombola, plant stall, crafts and other items. The group look forward to welcoming you.
