Ninfield and Hooe

NINFIELD ACTION GROUP: Very important. The open meeting at the Memorial Hall on Wednesday at 7.30pm. This will be for all residents of Ninfield to find out the most up to date information regarding the proposed new housing numbers allocated to the village by Wealden District Council. You will have had flyers through your doors, and there are notices up on all boards and in the Lower Street Stores. Do go along on the 16th and see how NAG, supported by the Parish Council, are getting research and facts together to combat plans for over-development in the village. It is so important to have your say; and also see if you can help in any way.

BONFIRE SOCIETY: On Thursday, at The Working men’s Club, 8pm, Ninfield Bonfire Society are holding their AGM and will also be discussing all the fundraising events planned for the year. The Ninfield Music Festival will be held on July 29 and 30 and Chairman Pete Holland has confirmed that the orchestra is already booked for the Prom Concert on the Friday evening: the next thing to book is the weather. If you remember the deluge storms of last year when the Prom had to be cancelled, well, we’re not having all that again. If you can get along to the meeting on Thursday, you will be made very welcome; as always, more volunteers are needed to help with all the events.

NINFIELD HISTORY GROUP: In the Methodist Hall at 7.30pm, on Thursday, the history group will be hosting another gathering, with speaker Sarah Page from the Sussex Truggery giving a talk on the life, times and history of the famous Sussex Trug. These evenings are really popular, with a record turnout for the last presentation by Liz Darbyshire and David Swales who gave a fantastic talk on Ninfield School which was very warmly received, hopefully they will be doing it again, due to local demand! -so those who missed it watch this space. Do get to the Methodist Hall in good time, refreshments are included in the entry price of £1 for Members and £3 for non-members. Call Rod Ffoulkes on 893635 for more information.

HOOE PARISH COUNCIL: Will meet on Monday March 21 at 7.30pm in the village hall in Hooe. All residents are invited to attend and see what’s happening in the locale. There are many ideas being floated for the celebrations of the Queen’s 90th Birthday, so go along and have your input. We’re all very lucky in our area, both Hooe and Ninfield are active and lively villages with great groups, societies and parish councils; and both are served by hard working parish, district and county councillors. There is also a lot of contact cross border with neighbouring villages, Catsfield and Crowhurst, and, of course, with Sidley and Bexhill.

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: Thanks again to Rose for the following update on the next meeting and forthcoming Spring Show. On Monday March 21 the evening speaker will be Wendy from Rotherview Nursery with her talk about Camelias. Please meet in the Memorial Hall at 7.30pm for a very colourful evening. The Spring Show is on Saturday March 26, Easter Saturday. Schedules are in the Lower Street Stores and it is hoped that many of you will enter the competitions! There is a wide range of classes to choose from, and new participants can get help if required. It’s great fun to join in, or to go along to, visitors are welcome from 2.30pm at the Memorial Hall, to enjoy the exhibits along with tea and homemade cakes. NINFIELD VILLAGE SOCIETY: This fantastic group are hosting their AGM on Tuesday March 22 at the Reading Room in Church Lane at 7pm. There will be a brief report on the work undertaken during the past year, and an opportunity to discuss future projects. Everyone is welcome to attend and it is hoped that new members who have an interest in maintaining the beautiful Church Woods, or improving the look and standards of the green spaces, will be attracted to join the stalwarts who have quietly been looking after the village for many years. Unsung heroes all. Following a short break when refreshments will be available, there will be a talk and slide show given by Graham Kean entitled The Normans at Pevensey. I know I always say do go along to this event, but I do always mean it, and in this case please do go along to the meeting; Martin and Robin will be extremely pleased to see you, the Village Society really would love some more support and Ninfield Village really appreciates what the members do, and have done, for so long. CHURCH SERVICE: On Sunday there will be a Combined Parish Eucharist Service at St Marys, Ninfield at 10.30am.
