Officers said nearly 60,000 people descended on Brighton and Hove seafront on Sunday afternoon - although the club put the figure at 100,000 - to celebrate the Seagulls' promotion to the Premier League. And police congratulated fans for their 'good humour and behaviour'.

Superintendent Jane Derrick, who led the policing operation in support of the parade from Madeira Drive to Hove Lawns, said: "It's been a great day and I'd like to thank everyone, including the club and their stewards, but especially the supporters who turned out in such numbers, for making our job a pleasure.
