Entertainment: I think it must be said that we punch above our weight for a small village, in the quality of entertainment on offer. Last weekend, over 2000 people enjoyed our Bonfire Procession, giving over £800 in the charity buckets, which will be shared by Northiam Helping Hands and Little Gate Farm, Beckley. Thanks to everyone who made it happen (especially the children who made our guys) and who came and supported.

This weekend, we cater for both classical and modern musical tastes with two fabulous evenings:

William Byrd: Cantemus presents An Evening with Mr Byrd in St Mary’s Church at 7.30pm on Saturday 15th. The programme includes Byrd’s Ave Verum Corpus, Mass in Four Parts and much more, and features Julian Curry, RSC actor, as William Byrd. Entry is £10 to include an interval glass of wine, and proceeds will go to Music Space Charity.

Grease: In the Village Hall, Showtimers are holding a Grease Night, themed around the film. Guests are encouraged to dress up 50’s style, with prizes for the best outfits. Hot dogs and popcorn will be served, and there will be fun and games, a short quiz and 50s music to dance to, culminating with a showing of the film, with on-screen lyrics to sing along. Sounds great fun!!

Chitiwiri: The next collection of clothes, shoes, belts, bedding, handbags, perfume, toiletries and soft toys for Chitiwiri will be on 18th October. The items need to be put in green bags which can be collected from Forge House (the old post office) or tied in a black bin liner. The last day for delivering the bags is Monday 17th October. Sally (0790 333 8614) would be very grateful if you would call before dropping off the bags so that they don’t get wet if they are left outside!! Thank you so much for your support.

Over 60s: Tuesday is Quiz Day for the Over 60s. The meeting starts at 2pm in the Village Hall.

Coffee Stop: Call into the Church Centre on Wednesday mornings for coffee and a chat at Coffee Stop, between 10 and 12 noon.

BMAS: Brickwall Music and Arts Society returns to the Drawing Room at Brickwall House, and the first concert of the season will be the outstanding Primavera Piano Quartet on 28th October. Admission is by ticket only, available to members. For details, please contact the membership secretary 01797 225822.

Flu Vaccination: The vaccination season is upon us. Northiam Surgery will be holding sessions for all eligible patients – over 65, chronic conditions, carer etc. If you are unable to get to any of these, or are not eligible for the free flu jab, most community pharmacies are also offering this service (both NHS and private), so there’s no excuse to miss out!

Looking ahead: It’s a busy time of year ahead – just a few highlights: 5th November Coffee Morning in aid of St Michael’s Hospice, 12th November National Trust Quiz Night,19th November NVHT Christmas Fayre , 26th November NBS Christmas Craft Fayre, 3rd December NBS Quiz Night.
