Greg Barker MP is holding a surgery in the village hall on Friday 13th June between 10.30 and 11.30 am – just turn up.

The badminton clubs meet in the Pretious Sports Hall each Friday, with Primary school aged players at 5.30pm, Secondary at 6.30pm and the adult club at 8pm. Dance Club will be twirling from 7.30pm in the Village hall.

On Saturday, Rye Lions Club will be holding a Coffee Morning at 11 High St, Rye (next to Adams) from 10:30 am - 3:30 pm, in aid of Rye Community Transport. There will be light lunches, afternoon tea, produce, cakes, books and more on sale. Sounds like a good outing!

The Blood Transfusion Service will be coming to the Village Hall Car Park on Tuesday.

There will be a meeting of parents at the school at 6pm to discuss the future of Lolly – Pat Brabon – our beloved school crossing lady. We were misinformed, and we DO still have to find some funding locally to keep up this essential service to our children and the village.

As some of you may know, our Primary School had an Ofsted monitoring visit last week. The HMI inspector spent two days in school, observing lessons in all classes, looking at books and talking to children. There is no report just yet, but it was a very positive visit and the school is delighted with his feedback. The full report will be available to view on the Ofsted website in the next couple of weeks and there will be a parents’ evening later this term to present the report to the community.

Coffee Stop will be brewing in the Church Centre from 10am on Wednesday and everyone is very welcome to drop in for a chat. Lace Group meets in the Jenkins Room at 2pm.

The Midsummer Festival (21st June) is looking pretty exciting! I hope you have invited all your dog-loving friends to enter the Dog Show. There are some fantastic craft stalls selling a wide range of beautiful things, suitable for treating yourself or stocking up for presents. There will be some good food – barbeque, flapjacks, sweet pancakes, cakes and, of course, beer on sale in Northiam once again!! Six breweries, ten ales, two ciders, lager and wine will probably be more popular than the tea tent, but that will also be fully stocked.

Two specialist plant nurseries will be there – our good friends Rotherview and Oak Tree – and ferrets, model aircraft (not the teeny weeny stuff!), rides games and music. In fact, if you fancy a turn at the microphone yourself, there’s an Open Mic running in the afternoon.

Then we join the big boys. On Sunday we have Milton Jones, recently returned from a barnstorming tour of Australia, performing a benefit gig for St Mary’s Church Restoration Fund. The £20 indoor tickets have nearly all gone, but there will still be some £5 tickets available – call 01797 253118 or email [email protected]. Can you afford to miss something like this? There will be a licensed bar and tea tent, and you are invited to picnic in the park from 4pm. Please remember, though, that glass cannot be taken onto the Playing Fields.

In case you missed the defibrillator training in Northiam, Rother Responders are holding another session, in Brede Village hall, on Wednesday June 25th. There will be two sessions – at 7pm and 8pm – training in the use of defibrillators such as the one outside the Spar.
