One-way Sidley faces three months of roadwork disruption

WORK is due to start on Monday on East Sussex County Council's plans for highway improvements in Sidley.

Road-users are warned that the work could take three months.

The work includes making Suffolk Road, Sidley Street and Sidley Green into one-way streets.

A spokesman said: "This scheme involves a number of minor works throughout Sidley and are designed to improve access to bus stops and conditions for pedestrians."

The schedule of work includes:

*21 May - 3 June.Buxton Drive: Bus stop improvements and footway widening

This will involve temporarily re-locating the bus stop at the junction of Buxton Drive and Ninfield Rd along the lay-by outside the shops.

Parking in this lay-by will be temporarily restricted.

*4 June - 17 June. Sidley Green: Permanent one-way order and footway widening

Sidley Green will be closed at the junction with Ninfield Road and a local diversion will operate. Access for residents will be maintained and a turning circle provided.

*18 June '“ 15 July. Sidley Street: Permanent one-way order and footway widening

Sidley Street will be closed at the junction with Ninfield Road and Suffolk Road and a local diversion will operate. Access for residents will be maintained. There will also be the construction of a new bus stop in Ninfield Road opposite the entrance to Sidley Street. Access to the public car park will be adjusted via All Saints Lane for a two week period within these dates.

*16 July '“ 22 July. Suffolk Road: Permanent one-way order and footway widening

Access to Suffolk Road will be restricted from North Road only. On two days within these dates traffic in Claremont Road will be restricted to eastbound only.

*23 July '“ 5 August. All Saints Lane: Landscaping works at the eastern end of All Saints Lane.

The spokesman added: "Access for residents may be limited during working hours 7:30 '“ 17:00. During this time access should be arranged locally with the site manager or supervisor.

"Access for pedestrians will be mainly unaffected however may be restricted from time to time due to movement of plant and equipment.
