College's debate lacked substance

I attended the Hastings College referendum debate on Friday, hoping to be engaged by informative exchange.

Regretfully, I found it to be woefully low on substance from the remain side.

Their key speaker, who stood in for Amber Rudd, was another Conservative MP who simply regurgitated stock party lines without any content. Their second defence, a local councillor, focused on the EU being the benefactors of their grants, clearly without considering who gave that money to the EU in the first place.

The chair, a college principle, was equally out of his comfort zone, having clearly thought this was an opportunity to put on a good-humoured debating society type gig, only to be shocked by the passion from those that attended.

Needless to say, the debate was outgunned by the leave speakers and I maintain that the difference between the EU referendum campaigns is that one is alledgedly fearful of the unknown if we leave, and the other is genuinely fearful of the known if we remain.
