Area coming to life after winter

It may be a little too early to breathe out and think we have escaped the big freeze, but signs of spring were everywhere this week with crocuses and snowdrops blooming and sightings of daffodils and primroses.

And there are lots of signs of life in our local communities.

Battle is already gearing up for its big Easter marbles event while Rye’s annual Scallop Week Festival starts this weekend.

If you haven’t sampled the local seafood delicacy, this is the perfect time with a record number of restaurants serving scallops in a mouth-watering variety of ways.

It is good to see Rother Council taking steps to improve its telephone response to council tax payers who have problems they need to resolve.

Not being able to speak to people is a major source of frustration and only compounds the problems they have.

Whilst Rother have said people can report issues online, there are many who do not have the internet or whose broadband is poor.

It is important this front-line service is maintained. Good communication is one of the signs of a local authority working well and effectively.
