For the second day running, and two months before its official launch, Radio Brighton broadcast to the people of Brighton and Hove as an emergency blizzard service. Only the fifth local station in the

country, the station initially covered the coastal area from Shoreham to Peacehaven with 75 watts on 88.1 MHz from Whitehawk Hill. In October 1983, Radio Brighton became BBC Radio Sussex.

An FA commission deducted two points from managerless Albion’s meagre total as a result of the pitch invasion at the Lincoln City game on October 1st.

The club was now 11 points adrift of Hartlepool United at the foot of Division Three.

It can safely be said that ‘things were looking bleak’ was a significant understatement.

Tuesday December 9 1997

Five senior and high earning professionals – Craig Maskell, Paul McDonald, Mark Morris, Denny Mundee and John Humphrey – were paid off as Dick Knight struggled to keep the club afloat with poor attendances at Gillingham.

On the same day, the Supporters’ Club invited Withdean residents to meet them at The Sportsman and discuss Albion’s potential residency.

Only one turned up.
