LETTER: Blinkered view on windows

It appears that English Heritage and the local planners have got themselves a problem with the decision concerning the new windows at The East Beach Hotel. I wonder if they have really taken off their blinkers and had a good look along that row of hotels at the windows of other hotels.

Next door to The East Beach is a conservatory/lounge with sliding aluminium windows, another has an enclosed seating area with uPVC windows, another has brown wooden windows, The Glastonbury ‘conservatory’ is a rotting hardwood and aluminium mess. The new windows in The East Beach are the BEST LOOKING in the row so why the fuss?

Surely it would be better for the local council to examine how to make Eastbourne more attractive by sorting out the appalling array of wheelie bins so clearly cluttering up the pavements, get the litter and rubbish cleared on a daily basis from the town centre, work with East Sussex County Council to get broken pavings mended and generally make our town clean again. The council is banging on about spending millions on the Devonshire Park area (the Winter Garden is an absolute disgrace) and ignoring the basics.

Let’s also hope that when the new shopping centre is built and the streets relaid that they also make a better job than that previously done from Bankers Corner to Langney Road, where loose block paving creates a real hazard. Sort yourselves out, councillors, and leave good hoteliers to do their job – which is to attract visitors to our town.
