LETTER: Change in law over licences

Some of your readers may be unaware of a change in the law which means that from the 1st September 2016 you need to be covered by a TV Licence to watch or download BBC programmes on demand on BBC iPlayer - including catch-up TV. This applies to all devices.

As before, you still need a TV Licence to watch or record live TV on any channel, on all devices.

We have recently conducted a survey which demonstrates that many households struggle to understand TV terminology.

Some phrases are very familiar to TV viewers but others are less well-known, including important terms such as ‘on demand’.

The survey revealed that almost ten per cent of people in the South East mistakenly think the term means a subscription or rental service, rather than TV content which is available anytime, anywhere, whenever you want at a time to suit you.
