We want to keep Horsham a vibrant, bustling town on Sundays for all our residents and businesses.

Introducing Sunday charges will lead to more people avoiding the car parks, just as they have done in the evenings since the council introduced evening charges.

Additional parking on side streets could lead to congestion on Sundays too, spoiling our quiet residential areas, where residents should be able to walk and cycle safely. Visitors to the town, also, may stop shopping here, harming trade for our shops, restaurants and cafes.

The case for increasing charges in the town has not been justified as the car parks are not operating at full capacity.

Meanwhile many of the rural towns’ car parks are free all the time, favouring the economy of those towns and villages and leaving Horsham town centre businesses and residents who use the centre to take much of the burden – acting as a ‘cash cow’ for HDC.

Horsham Liberal Democrats oppose the introduction of car park charges on Sunday. If, despite all local opposition, charges are introduced, then this income should, at least, be applied to the needs of the town centre.
