LETTER: More pressure on street space

One consequence of introducing evening charges for Horsham town centre car parking has been to rack up further the pressure on town centre residents without access to off- street parking.

Rather than paying the charge, it seems, individuals have chosen to take up whatever street space is available. Sunday parking charges will replicate this process.

In a previous County Times article, John Steele of the Horsham Society urged the creation of a joint working party between the county and district councils to address future on and off-street parking requirements.

As he described, ‘Sleepwalking into chaos is not an adequate policy response to a real and growing problem’.

Has his sensible suggestion been taken up or is the idea of introducing Sunday charges another sign of decision making in isolation?
