Call this a crime?

FOLLOWING the original article about my parking fine (Gazette, October 28) and the subsequent letters (November 4 and 11), might I correct a false impression?

The main cause I was raising was the heartless, dismissive way the council handled my appeal.

Firstly, I was invited to explain why the parking disc had not been displayed. The council’s response was two typed pages saying in effect: refused – the disc was not displayed. My explanation was ignored.

Secondly, the council further “justified” its verdict by announcing “We are unable to take a person’s age into account when judging an appeal, as this could amount to discrimination.”

The fact is you can be forgetful when you grow older, particularly if you have things on your mind. I was merely suggesting a moment’s forgetfulness should not be treated as a crime.
