Don’t forget war

I think it’s delightful that the students at The Angmering School are getting involved with a memorial garden commemorating the First World War (Littlehampton Gazette, October 16).

The war, and subsequent conflicts after then, should always – without exception – be remembered.

The horrors and tragedy that came from such wars should never be forgotten. It’s a lesson that we all need to keep in our mind’s eye to ensure that they never happen again.

I fear if we do have another world war it will be a calamity for the globe; potentially, the war to truly end all wars.

So, what the students, teachers and community is doing in Angmering is incredible.

I’m just really touched by it all. I lost my grandfather during the Second World War and I think he would have been very proud to see youngsters commemorating the heroics of people like him and his comrades in the military, be it from the First World War or the Second World War.

Long may the school keep going and tending for the garden!

I would certainly be keen to see how it develops and thrives in the coming years.
